Hamilton might be well-known as a retelling of a famous figure’s life, but a Texas church has introduced another figure — Jesus Christ — to the mix, performing illegally incorporated Christian-centric rhetoric in an unauthorized production of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s hit 2015 musical.The Tony-winning musical, still playing on Broadway and in the midst of a North American national tour, is unavailable for licensing by other theater groups.But that didn’t stop The Door Christian Fellowship Ministries of McAllen from performing their own illegal adaptation, with altered text, on August 5 and 6.Located in southern Texas, The Door uses popular media, altered to spread a conservative Christian message, as part of its programming. Hamilton is not their first target: past titles have included Beauty and the Beast and Toy Story, both of which can be found on an archived version of the church’s website.The Door’s production of Hamilton incorporated Christian messaging, and one performance was accompanied with a sermon by Senior Pastor Ramon Gutierrez that compared homosexuality to addiction.“Maybe you struggle with alcohol, with drugs, with homosexuality,” Gutierrez said.

The creator of Hamilton is happy action is being taken against an unauthorized production of the hit Broadway musical.

Salt Lake City Police are investigating a hate crime against a gay couple in Sandy, Utah.According to the Associated Press, Christian Peacock, 18, and his boyfriend Jacob Metcalf, 18, were attacked by a group of young men outside Peacock’s family home just after midnight on August 6.Peacock told one of the young men,“You’re probably also gay and acting out because of it.”This is when Peacock was punched in the side of the head.  According to the Salt Lake Tribune, the punch was “so hard that he’s still got teeth marks indented inside his cheek from the impact.”He can then be heard on the video saying “You think you can just hit people?”According to Sandy Police Sgt. Greg Moffit,  a 17-year-old was arrested for assault.  Charges have not yet been filed.Moffit is looking into including a hate crime enhancement to the charges because he says, “it was very obvious that the suspect knew (Peacock) was a gay man and he was targeted for that.”He continued “We want our residents to know and we want the public to know that if this happens in our city we’re not going to tolerate it.

The Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI) has recommended monkeypox vaccines for key risk groups, including gay, bisexual and men who have sex with men who are at high risk of exposure.ATAGI also updated its earlier guideline and in addition to the ACAM2000 vaccine, it has recommended the use of JYNNEOS (MVA-BN) vaccines for monkeypox.Following the update to the vaccination guidelines, Australia’s chief medical officer Professor Paul Kelly on Thursday declared monkeypox as a “Communicable Disease Incident of National Significance”. As of July 28, 2022, around 20,311 monkeypox cases have been reported in 71 countries, outside of Central and West Africa where the disease is endemic. This includes 44 monkeypox cases in Australia, a majority among returned international travellers. LGBTQI leaders and organisations in Australia had urged the government to approve and secure supplies of the monkeypox vaccine and offer it to gay, bisexual and men who have sex with men and other at risk individuals.Professor Kelly said that monkeypox was “far less harmful than COVID-19” and “far less transmissible”.
