Heeding Lessons Of The Past Will Help Us Combat Monkeypox in Australia

By Karl JohnsonHistory has taught us how to effectively respond to an infectious disease outbreak – but we must work together and act fast.  For many of us, this feels familiar.  We are watching the exponential growth of an infectious outbreak overseas while having more mild impacts here at home, yet that might likely change. Much like the early days of the COVID-19 and HIV pandemics, our local situation lags behind what we see in places like the United States and Europe.

‘She-Hulk’ Creator Jessica Gao Reveals Her ‘Black Widow’ Movie Pitch and the Secret Origins of Trolling Kevin Feige

“She-Hulk: Attorney at Law,” which just debuted on Disney+, is arguably the most delightful Marvel Studios series yet. Created by Jessica Gao and starring Tatiana Maslany as the lawyer-turned-superhero, “She-Hulk” is effervescent and refreshing, a balmy tonic after the darkness of “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” and other, more somber Marvel Studios productions.

WFLD.The person claims to have voted for Trump three times in the 2020 election because “Chicago has a relaxed voting system.” The officer also appeared to advocate for armed insurrection, claiming that American cities “are not worth fighting for.”“I’ll leave here and shoulder a rifle in the woods if it ever comes to that,” the user wrote. That same user started a new thread on Tuesday asking for more questions, this time including a photo of an obscured police ID and a gay slur in the title. Asked about racial profiling, the user replied: “I don’t pull over anyone white.”The user also cited an interracial kiss as “the most serious crime” they overlooked while on the job, using the n-word in the response. The user’s postings were brought to the department’s attention after someone reached out to the Civilian Office of Police Accountability on Monday to complain about the incendiary postings.Jennifer Rottner, a spokeswoman for the Civilian Office of Police Accountability, said the agency received the complaint and forwarded it to the police department’s Bureau of Internal Affairs.Maggie Huynh, a spokeswoman for the Chicago Police Department, confirmed that an investigation has been opened, but would not comment further. The 4chan message boards have become widely regarded by many as a breeding ground for racism, anti-Semitism, homophobia, and other forms of political extremism.

Texas Church Stages Unlicensed ‘Hamilton’ with Anti-Gay Message

Hamilton might be well-known as a retelling of a famous figure’s life, but a Texas church has introduced another figure — Jesus Christ — to the mix, performing illegally incorporated Christian-centric rhetoric in an unauthorized production of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s hit 2015 musical. The Tony-winning musical, still playing on Broadway and in the midst of a North American national tour, is unavailable for licensing by other theater groups. But that didn’t stop The Door Christian Fellowship Ministries of McAllen from performing their own illegal adaptation, with altered text, on August 5 and 6.Located in southern Texas, The Door uses popular media, altered to spread a conservative Christian message, as part of its programming. Hamilton is not their first target: past titles have included Beauty and the Beast and Toy Story, both of which can be found on an archived version of the church’s website. The Door’s production of Hamilton incorporated Christian messaging, and one performance was accompanied with a sermon by Senior Pastor Ramon Gutierrez that compared homosexuality to addiction.“Maybe you struggle with alcohol, with drugs, with homosexuality,” Gutierrez said.

Viktor Orbán Receives Standing Ovation for Anti-Gay Speech at CPAC

bans so-called “gay propaganda,” defined as any content that is believed to “promote” homosexuality, in schools and in media — even in depictions that are intended to only be viewed by adults. The law, which mirrors a similar law in Russia, prohibits any positive, or even neutral, portrayals of homosexuality, casting all LGBTQ people as evil or disordered under the guise of “protecting” children. Critics say the law is based on conservative tropes that associate homosexuality with pedophilia, as well as the notion that people will easily or readily change their sexual orientation simply by being made aware of the existence of LGBTQ people. In his CPAC speech, Orbán repeated tropes popular with right-wing voters, complaining about “fake news” published by legitimate news outlets, attacking Jewish billionaire George Soros, former U.S.

Fauci: Monkeypox Response Must Avoid Stigmatizing Gay and Bi Men

All Things Considered, that it is important to treat the virus as one that can affect anybody, even though the overwhelming majority of infected individuals have been men who have sex with men.Currently, there are 20,638 confirmed cases of monkeypox infection worldwide, and 4,639 confirmed cases in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The World Health Organization has recently classified the current outbreak as a public health emergency, underscoring the importance of public health officials prioritizing actions like connecting infected individuals with treatment, doing contact tracing to alert those at risk of acquiring the disease, and vaccinating those who have not yet been exposed to the virus but are among high-risk populations, such as men who have sex with men, trans women, and commercial sex workers.According to an article published in the New England Journal of Medicine, 98% of infected individuals, out of a sample of 528 people from 16 different countries, were gay or bisexual men. But Fauci argues that just because the disease is prevalent in one community doesn’t mean that community should be shunned or stigmatized.

This includes 44 monkeypox cases in Australia, a majority among returned international travellers. LGBTQI leaders and organisations in Australia had urged the government to approve and secure supplies of the monkeypox vaccine and offer it to gay, bisexual and men who have sex with men and other at risk individuals.Professor Kelly said that monkeypox was “far less harmful than COVID-19” and “far less transmissible”.
