United were able to reduce the size of the squad almost as soon as last season ended, confirming that six first-team members, including Paul Pogba and Edinson Cavani, would be released upon the expiry of their contracts at the end of June. However, the transformation of the squad was expected to go deeper, with more players predicted to be moved on.
