Gardeners share 'only way' to kill English Ivy that will 'get rid of plant forever'

A group of gardening enthusiasts have shared their method to banish English Ivy for good.
If left to its own devices, the troublesome plant can grow wildly and become uncontrollable. As well as infiltrating green spaces and prompting rotting. It can also creep up on buildings and cause major structural damage.
If you're having trouble with the fast-growing vine, there is one thing you can do to get rid of the pesky weed once and for all - but you must be prepared to get your hands dirty.
The advice comes courtesy of the Gardening UK Facebook page, where green-fingered members regularly share their knowledgeable tips and tricks. After one man took to the discussion forum asking hot to kill English ivy, the majority of responses said the only sure fire way is to completely uproot the plant.
The Mirror reports that members said popular natural methods like pouring boiling water over the plant can temporarily stunt its growth, but won't do anything to kill the resilient roots. Instead, you should cut the branches at the root and then dig into the soil below to pull out the root of the plant.
Only then, once all the roots have been taken out of the ground, will the plant stop trying to grow back. One commenter said: "Cut at the bottom, let the branches die and then pull off.
"To actually stop it from coming back, dig dig dig, the roots spread and you'll likely pull up ivy shoots for years, but small shoots are easily managed."
While another added: "Cut it off at the base, pull as much off as you can and the rest will die off. Then you need to dig up the roots. It's the only way to get rid of this plant forever."
