Detroit rapper Eminem has had a long career, and by many standards is seen as one of hip-hop’s greatest lyricists. His rhymes over the last two decades have been eclectic, but recently he’s sped up the pace with tracks like “Godzilla” and broken records with “Rap God.”

On Thursday (Feb. 27), Royce Da 5'9" dropped by Billboard's offices to perform some tracks from his eighth studio album, The Allegory, which dropped last week -- and he flexed that rapping isn't his only skill.

The posthumous David Bowie bounty will continue on April 18 with the the releaese of a special Record Store Day rarity live album. I'm Only Dancing (The Soul Tour 74) pulls together previously unreleased tapes from shows in Nashville and Detroit in 1974. The new album joins another upcoming Record Store Day release, ChangesNowBowie, and, according to Parlophone Records, the live album will come in a 2LP and 2CD format.

Following Eminem’s surprise appearance at the Academy Awards on Sunday, Variety caught up with the Detroit rapper to discuss the performance and his thoughts on the current state of hip-hop. When asked which new artists he’s excited about, he pointed to a pair of emerging rappers as well as his own Shady Records signees Griselda.

Eminem‘s surprise performance of “Lose Yourself” at the 2020 Oscars was one of the biggest highlights of the night. He rose to the stage after a montage celebrating the sound editing/mixing award, and burst into the 8 Mile tune that won him a Best Original Song Oscar in 2003. At the time, he back at home in Detroit and wasn’t there to accept the award or perform the song. He explained to our sister site Variety why he decided to do it 17 years later.

Who else saw Martin Scorsese sleep during Eminem’s Oscars 2020 performance? The “Love the Way You Lie” rapper, 47, took the stage at the 92nd annual Academy Awards on Sunday, February 9, and the celebrity reactions were…interesting, to say the least. Among the viral reactions were Billie Eilish and Idina Menzel’s faces and Scorsese nodding off as Eminem performed “Lose Yourself.”

Tonight at the 2020 Oscars, Eminem made a surprise appearance to perform his song “Lose Yourself.” The song appeared on the original soundtrack to the 2002 drama 8 Mile, which starred Eminem and was set in the rapper’s native Detroit. Just before Eminem appeared on the Oscar stage, clips from 8 Mile were shown in a montage celebrating music in film.
