Oscars 2020: Watch Eminem’s Surprise “Lose Yourself” Performance

Royce Da 5’9” recently appeared on The Breakfast Club, where he claimed Tee Grizzley “burned a bridge that he ain’t even know he had” after the Detroit up-and-comer appeared to take shots at Eminem on “No Talkin.” However, Tee took Royce’s comments to task in a series of now-deleted posts.

Detroit rapper Eminem has had a long career, and by many standards is seen as one of hip-hop’s greatest lyricists. His rhymes over the last two decades have been eclectic, but recently he’s sped up the pace with tracks like “Godzilla” and broken records with “Rap God.”

On Thursday (Feb. 27), Royce Da 5'9" dropped by Billboard's offices to perform some tracks from his eighth studio album, The Allegory, which dropped last week -- and he flexed that rapping isn't his only skill.

Last month, Eminem dropped his surprise album, Music to Be Murdered By, which included the late Juice WRLD’s first posthumous feature on “Godzilla.” The Detroit MC just sat down with Crook’s Corner, where he reflected on the “Lucid Dreams” artist’s potential.

The posthumous David Bowie bounty will continue on April 18 with the the releaese of a special Record Store Day rarity live album. I'm Only Dancing (The Soul Tour 74) pulls together previously unreleased tapes from shows in Nashville and Detroit in 1974. The new album joins another upcoming Record Store Day release, ChangesNowBowie, and, according to Parlophone Records, the live album will come in a 2LP and 2CD format.

We love a good #StorytimeWithSalma snippet, especially when it gives us some Oscar-worthy backstage deets. On Sunday, February 9, A-list celebs from all over joined for Hollywood’s biggest night at the Dolby Theatre.

Following Eminem’s surprise appearance at the Academy Awards on Sunday, Variety caught up with the Detroit rapper to discuss the performance and his thoughts on the current state of hip-hop. When asked which new artists he’s excited about, he pointed to a pair of emerging rappers as well as his own Shady Records signees Griselda.

Eminem‘s surprise performance of “Lose Yourself” at the 2020 Oscars was one of the biggest highlights of the night. He rose to the stage after a montage celebrating the sound editing/mixing award, and burst into the 8 Mile tune that won him a Best Original Song Oscar in 2003. At the time, he back at home in Detroit and wasn’t there to accept the award or perform the song. He explained to our sister site Variety why he decided to do it 17 years later.

Every year, we watch the Oscars In Memoriam with tears in our eyes, but this year, we found ourselves scanning the screen for a name that didn't ever appear. In an oversight that's sure to provoke a lot of strong feelings, Luke Perry was left out of this year's Academy Awards In Memoriam package.

Eminem shocked the crowd at the Dolby Theater in L.A. on Sunday night (Feb. 9) when he rocked the Academy Awards stage with a surprise performance of "Lose Yourself," the 8 Mile track that won the Detroit MC an Oscar back in 2003. Making up for more than a decade of lost time -- the rapper said he didn't show up way back then because he was sure he wouldn't win -- Em ripped the tune that has become an iconic pump-up song.

Oscars 2020 did not recognise actor Luke Perry in its In Memoriam tribute which included various artists who passed away over the last year, leaving a treasure of legacy behind them. Among those honoured in the segment was NBA superstar Kobe Bryant, who died in a tragic helicopter crash in January alongside his 13-year-old daughter, Gianna.

One of the Oscars’ biggest snubs came in the “In Memoriam” segment, of all places.

The two got engaged earlier this year after dating for three years. In a rare show of PDA, the loved up couple walked hand in hand and even embraced each other while posing for the cameras. Mara strutted down the red carpet looking fabulous in a black gown with a cutout semi-sheer lace bodice, puff shoulders and a tiered skirt.

Today the Rolling Stones announced that their “No Filter” tour will return to North America for a 15-city run in 2020. The 2020 tour is set to kick off May 8 at SDCCU Stadium in San Diego and will bring The Stones back to markets they have not played in over a decade, including Vancouver, Austin, Louisville, Cleveland, St. Louis, Charlotte and Tampa. The tour will also make stops in Minneapolis, Nashville, Dallas, Buffalo, Detroit, Pittsburgh and Atlanta (the full itinerary appears below).
