An anticipated banner prestige animation title from Paris-based Silex Films (“The Lost Boys,” “This is My Mother”), “In Waves” lead producer, the feature also marks the first animated co-production of both Anonymous Content (“The Revenant,” “Spotlight”) and Charades, behind sales of Jeremy Clapin’s “I Lost My Body” and Mamoru Hosoda’s “Mirai,” both Oscar nominated titles.
In Waves is directed by Phuong Mai Nguyen, a former student of French animation schools Gobelins and La Poudrière who helmed episodes of the Silex-produced animated series “Brazen” and was Oscar-shortlisted for her short “My Home,” “In Waves” has just been announced as one of five titles at the Annecy Animation Showcase, part of Cannes’ Animation Day on May 19. A student activist in Wes Anderson’s 2021 Cannes Palme d’Or contender “The French Dispatch,” in 2020 Khoudri scored a most promising actress Cesar Award for her performance in Mounia Meddour’s “Papicha,” having won a best actress plaudit at 2017’s Venice Horizons for “Blessed.” Vega’s credits take in both Quentin Dupieux’s “Deerskin” and Christophe Honoré’s “Sorry Angel.” They will be joined by Paul Kircher who earned nominations for a most promising actor César Award for his starring roles in both 2022’s “Winter Boy” and last year’s “The Animal Kingdom,” and by Birana Ba, a member of the Comédie Française,

Pointing out the ocean view, the mountains and the Christ the Redeemer statue overlooking the city, she added: “This place is magic.”Madonna performed her classic hits, including “Like A Virgin” and “Hung Up.” For the introduction to “Like A Prayer,” her head was completely covered in a black cape, a rosary gripped in her hands.The star paid an emotional tribute to “all the bright lights” lost to AIDS as she sang “Live to Tell,” with black and white photos of people who died from the illness flashing behind her.Later, she was joined on stage by Brazilian artists Anitta and Pabllo Vittar.Rio spent the last few days readying itself for the performance.An estimated 1.6 million people attended the show, G1 reported, citing Rio City Hall’s tourism agency.That is more than 10 times Madonna’s record attendance of 130,000 at Paris’ Parc des Sceaux in 1987.Madonna’s official website hyped the show as the biggest ever in her four-decade career.In recent days, the buzz was palpable.
