Fox Orders Dramedy ‘The Big Leap’ For 2021-2022 Broadcast Season

In time to today’s first semi-final of the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest, Peacock announced this morning that it has nabbed exclusive U.S. streaming rights to the 2021 and 2022 editions of European Broadcasting Union’s international musical competition and will offer it both live and on demand.

The Big Leap” and Paul Feig’s “Welcome to Flatch.”The trailers were unveiled at the network’s annual upfront presentation to advertisers on Monday, alongside information about returning favorites “9-1-1,” “The Masked Singer” and “The Resident.”The new shows teased Monday also include the long-gestating mob drama “The Cleaning Lady” and the ensemble comedy “Pivoting,” starring Eliza Coupe, Maggie Q and Ginnifer Goodwin.

It was a long, pandemic-impacted broadcast development cycle, with some pilots taking a year to get produced, but the broadcast networks have made their picks for new scripted series to debut in fall 2021 as well as the bulk of their decisions for new midseason 2022 shows. (The CW is still evaluating its pilots, while ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox will have a handful of pilots that will be filmed off-cycle for midseason consideration.)

Joe Otterson TV ReporterABC has given out series orders to the reboot of “The Wonder Years,” drama series “Queens,” and comedies “Maggie” and “Abbott Elementary.”The new version of “The Wonder Years” is a coming of age story set in the late 1960’s that takes a nostalgic look at a black middle-class family in Montgomery, Alabama through the point-of-view of imaginative 12 year-old Dean (Elisha “EJ” Williams).

Fox has given a straight-to-series order to anthology drama Accused, based on the International Emmy-winning British series. The project comes from key creative auspices behind Fox’s two biggest drama series of the last two decades, 24 executive producers Howard Gordon and Alex Gansa and House creator/executive producer David Shore. Sony Pictures TV, where Gordon & Gansa as well as Shore are under overall deals, will co-produce with Fox Entertainment.

Fox has ordered the anthology series “Accused” from the minds behind “House” and “24,” TheWrap has learned.Though the broadcast network has picked up the drama just ahead of its upfront presentation next week, it is slated for the 2022-2023 season — not this coming broadcast season.More to come…

ABC on Thursday announced a slew of unscripted renewals for the 2021-22 season ahead of the network’s May 18 upfront presentation. The renewals included a mix of reality veterans in Shark Tank (Season 13), America’s Funniest Home Videos (Season 32) and American Idol (Season 5), and newcomers Celebrity Wheel of Fortune (Season 2) following a highly rated winter run and Supermarket Sweep (Season 2).

FXX has picked up to series Little Demon, a half-hour animated comedy pilot starring Danny DeVito, his daughter Lucy DeVito and Aubrey Plaza. It comes from Danny DeVito’s Jersey Films 2nd Avenue, ShadowMachine and FX Productions, with Rick & Morty co-creator Dan Harmon executive producing. Little Demon joins animated comedy series Archer and Cake on FXX and FX on Hulu.

Fox is getting further into the country music scene. The network has handed a series order to Monarch, formerly known as the Untitled Country Music Dynasty drama, from Melissa London Hilfers.

Mónica Marie Zorrilla Fox has ordered the country music drama series “Monarch” for the 2021-2022 broadcast season from executive producer and creator Melissa London Hilfers. The show, formerly known as “Untitled Country Music Dynasty,” will feature original songs and covers.Per the logline, the one-hour drama is a Texas-sized, multigenerational musical drama about America’s first family of country music.
