A man flytipped an old mattress onto a street just 30 seconds away from the tip in Salford.
A CCTV camera caught Mark Beech dumping the mattress from his white Ford Transit van onto Harding Street at around 4.30pm on Sunday, November 20, 2022. The Cobden Street Recycling Centre sits just metres away.
The 34-year-old was interviewed in January this year by an officer from Salford City Council's Environmental Crime Investigations team. He admitted that he was the owner of the van and was driving it at the time.

He also admitted dumping the mattress, the council said. He was charged under the Environmental Protection Act and was handed a £300 fine court.
This was reduced to £200 due to 'his early admission of guilt'. Beech, of Duchy Road, Salford, was also ordered to pay £120 in costs and a victim surcharge of £80, leaving him with a total penalty of £400.
Council bosses said the dumped mattress presented a 'severe fire hazard' due to the railway line overhead. It was also dumped near an electricity substation.
Councillor Barbara Bentham, Salford Council's lead member for Environment, Neighbourhoods, Sports and Leisure, said: "We are pleased with the outcome of this case, as it reinforces our commitment to maintaining a clean and sustainable environment in Salford. The illegal deposit of controlled waste is a serious offence that poses risks to public safety and the ecosystem.
"We hope that the penalty serves as a strong deterrent, sending a clear message that such actions will not be tolerated in our city. Salford City Council remains steadfast in our efforts to enforce environmental regulations and hold perpetrators accountable for their
