Former This Morning host Fern Britton has opened up about her decision to leave the ITV show following an incident with co-host Phillip Schofield. The presenter, who is currently in the Celebrity Big Brother house, presented the show alongside Phillip for seven years, but left in 2009 and has since admitted things weren't so rosy when it came to her co-host. Since he stepped down in 2023, many fans are eager to hear Fern's side of the story whilst she appears on Celebrity Big Brother.
In a chat with The Mirror before entering the Big Brother house, Fern hinted at some tension between them during their time on the morning show. "Apparently I've signed up to spill the beans! Well, right now, I can tell you that I think let's approach with caution and kindness. It's fair to say that towards the end we were not getting on.
Things were tricky," she confessed.
Despite leaving the show unexpectedly after ten years, Fern still has fond memories of her time there: "I did love This Morning. I absolutely loved it. I wasn't expecting to resign on the day I resigned," she shared.
So, what was the big drama that made Fern decide to leave? At the time, whispers were going around that it was all about a pay gap. It was rumoured that after discovering Phil was earning £250,000 more than her, she felt "undervalued" by ITV bosses and was "living in Phil's shadow". It was also said that he was making three times her salary when they co-hosted the game show Mr and Mrs together - with him reportedly pocketing £45,000 per hour compared to her £15,000.
