Todd Spangler NY Digital Editor The FCC is considering a new rule that would require the disclosure of the use of artificial intelligence in political ads — while the agency would not prohibit AI-generated content. FCC Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel on Wednesday announced a new agency proposal that, if adopted, would look into whether radio and TV broadcasters, cable TV operators and satellite TV providers should be required to disclose when there is AI-generated content in candidate or issue-oriented political ads.
The agency’s regulatory purview in this area does not extend to online streaming services. “As artificial intelligence tools become more accessible, the commission wants to make sure consumers are fully informed when the technology is used,” Rosenworcel (pictured above) said in a statement.
“Today, I’ve shared with my colleagues a proposal that makes clear consumers have a right to know when AI tools are being used in the political ads they see, and I hope they swiftly act on this issue.” Last year, the Republican National Committee released an AI-generated attack ad depicting a dystopian future if President Biden is reelected in 2024 — featuring realistic-looking photos of boarded-up storefronts, military patrols in the streets and waves of immigrants creating panic. The RNC’s ad did feature a disclosure that said, “An AI-generated look into the country’s possible future if Joe Biden is re-elected in 2024.” Concerns over the use of AI specifically to promulgate political misinformation go back years.
For example, in 2018, filmmaker Jordan Peele produced a video for BuzzFeed that put Peele’s words into the mouth of former President Barack Obama, aiming to raise awareness of deepfakes. As noted by the AP, the

Selome Hailu There aren’t enough Native women on TV. But when they do get hired, they’re often playing cops. “Not to take away from the performances of all these actresses, who I admire so much and are doing a beautiful job,” says Lily Gladstone, “but it’s almost the only role that we get to see.” So it’s understandable that Gladstone had something of a checklist in hand when she first met with the producers of “Under the Bridge.” They were offering her the role of Cam Bentland, a police officer investigating the 1997 murder of Reena Virk (played by Vritika Gupta), a 14-year-old child of Indian immigrants in Saanich Core, British Columbia.

In Loot, Molly Wells has what Maya Rudolph describes as an “unrelatable amount” of wealth. While that may seem enough of a draw for an actor looking for a role with the promise of incredible outfits, the real interest for Rudolph was the character’s drive to use the money for good — while still wearing amazing costumes. Creators Matt Hubbard and Alan Yang brought a story of a woman wanting to give back to the world, but it’s Rudolph’s comedic style that brings the Apple TV+ series to life as Wells tries to get her life back on track after a divorce.
Love Island may only be starting this evening (3 June), but a villa twist is already in store for the islanders. Once the singletons have entered the villa, they will choose who to couple up with just moments after meeting one another.
