‘Fast X’ Sets ‘Now You See Me’ Director Louis Letterier to Replace Justin Lin

The network has commissioned six films to start, though further details about the films were not readily available.The move into made-for-TV movies at the network comes amid shifting tides in the world of cable and linear television channels.

Selome Hailu Peacock has given a straight-to-series order to Jason Woliner for an untitled project in the style of his work on “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm.”While plot details remain under wraps, the project is described as “mix[ing] fact and fiction to tell a bizarre and incredible tale.” Woliner, who directs and executive produces the project, has been shooting it for over a decade.Executive producers also include Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver and Loreli Alanis for Point Grey Pictures; Megan Ellison for Annapurna; and Michael Sagol and Bert Hamelinck for Caviar. Tyler Ben-Amotz also produces for Caviar.

Joe Leydon Film CriticIt’s easy to see why Netflix wanted to reteam actor Omar Sy and director Louis Leterrier in something, anything, given the popularity of their previous collaboration, the French thriller series “Lupin.” But U.S. viewers may be a tad puzzled by the streamer’s decision to green-light as their follow-up a popcorn movie as nondescript as “The Takedown” — a sequel to “On the Other Side of the Tracks” (“De l’autre côté du périph”), a lightweight 2012 French-produced buddy-cop action-comedy that, whatever its popularity in its home territory, received only (very) limited release by The Weinstein Company in this county.On the other hand: Leterrier — whose credits also include “Now You See Me” and the first two entries in the “Transporter” franchise — has just this week been given the keys to “Fast X,” replacing the creatively distanced Justin Lin as director for the next installment of the “Fast & Furious” franchise.

Netflix’s Season 5 will be released on September 9, it was revealed in the action-packed teaser trailer above.

A rumor had been circulating from The New York Daily News that writer/director Justin Lin‘s exit on “Fast X” last month was directly linked to producer/star Vin Diesel‘s unprofessionalism in allegedly showing up late to set, not learning his lines, and coming to set out of shape.
