A 'gunfight' broke out when around 10 men believed to be armed with AK-47s entered the grounds of the resort and the pair were 'caught with gunfire', an inquest into her death which concluded on Thursday heard.
A coroner has now ruled she was unlawfully killed. He said the motive for the attack was 'unclear' but ruled their was 'no evidence that this was terrorism related.'
He also said there were 'no failures or shortcomings' by the aid agency which contributed to her death. Faye, described as an 'altruistic, kind and caring' person and a 'true humanitraian' was an aid worker who had an extensive career in international development including work in Iraq and the Balkans.
At the time she was working for the US-based global non-governmental aid agency Mercy Corps as a communications specialist and was based in their office in the Nigerian capital of Abuja.
The court heard the day she died, April 19, 2019, was Good Friday, and
