There will be exhilarating entertainment for all when renowned international ballet star Carlos Acosta brings his world-class dance company The Lowry.
The Havana-based Acosta Danza will be presenting 100% Cuban on February 22 and 23, performing five works packed full of Cuban flair and featuring 12 incredible dancers.
Acosta Danza was due to perform at The Lowry in 2020 but those dates had to be cancelled because of the Covid-19 pandemic, but the 100% Cuban show will definitely be worth the wait. It is a new mixed bill of five works, all infused with Cuba's rich music and dance influences.
Carlos set up Acosta Danza to develop young talent, showcase Cuban performers and put the vibrancy of Cuban culture firmly centre stage. In just six years, the company has developed an unrivalled reputation as an ensemble of magnetic performers with a boundary-pushing repertoire of work by both international and home-grown choreographers.
"I am thrilled that Acosta Danza is at last going to be performing in Salford after such a difficult time for the industry," said Acosta.
"I look forward to sharing the 100% Cuban programme and showcasing some of the finest Cuban dancers I have ever had the pleasure of working with."
100% Cuban features UK premieres from three exciting young Cuban choreographers - Hybrid by Norge Cedeno Raffo, Liberto by Raúl Reinoso and De Punta a Cabo by Alexis Fernandez (Maca). Also in the programme are two big hits from the 2020 UK tour - Paysage, soudain, la nuit by Sweden’s Pontus Lidberg and Impronta created for Acosta Danza by Spanish choreographer Maria Rovira.
Hybrid is a new commission for the company’s 12 dancers from Norge Cedeno Raffo. After 10 years as a principal dancer and choreographer for Danza
