Two major Greater Manchester events have been cancelled with the region expected to be hit by heavy wind and thunderstorms this weekend. The Met Office is predicting rain throughout the weekend, while thunder and lightning is expected on Saturday (July 15).
Wind speeds are also set to ramp up over the weekend. It has led to the cancellation of two major events in Tameside.
Tameside Pride, at Cheetham's Park in Stalybridge, has been cancelled due to the forecast. The annual celebration of the borough's LGBTQ+ community had been due to take place from midday tomorrow (Saturday).

A spokesperson for the event said: "Owing to the continued forecast rain throughout the event times, high wind speeds forcing the closure of the fairground, and high possibility of thunder and lightning we weren’t comfortable in gathering a large amount of people in an open field exposed to the elements. Even though the forecasts are changing by the hour - the weather is quite unpredictable at the moment - we just can’t run the risk of something happening."
Sykes Bar and Decades Heaven and Hell, both in Stalybridge, will host an indoor party for Tameside Pride from midday until 4am. Meanwhile, the popular monthly Stalybridge Street Fest has also fallen foul of the weather, with an announcement earlier today that tonight's event was being shelved.
A spokesperson for organisers The Market Co said: "Despite the fact that the rain may abate the wind gust speeds are such that it would be dangerous to try and erect gazebos. We are so sorry to let you all down as we know how much you love this event but we will be back next month."
