Danny Murphy believes Manchester United players are not putting the work in defensively as they won't face any repercussions from Erik ten Hag.

Ten Hag's side had started with impetus, but that quickly fell away after a controversial penalty was given against Rasmus Hojlund on 26 minutes.
City then went on to dominate the rest of the game, keeping possession with ease and regaining the ball quickly when called upon. And former midfielder Murphy has slammed an apparent lack of effort in covering the hard yards.

"I don't think there's enough repercussions for the players who don't do the work," Murphy told Match of the Day 2. "If you don't do the work for Klopp, Guardiola or Arteta, you don't play.
"Too many United players get away with defending when they want and not defending when they want. It's really basic stuff they're not doing. Physically united were nowhere near it fitness-wise."
Ten Hag has previously criticised his players for not running this season, most notably after the 2-0 defeat at Tottenham in August. United were outplayed that day in north London, particularly in midfield.
"They didn’t run," the Reds boss said. "They run in the wrong moments, too late – especially the front. They didn’t recover. It happened, you can’t turn it around. It’s a demand here if you want to win games."
