According to Bloomberg, which was first to report news of recent talks surrounding the project, the project would be directly based on J.K. Rowling’s best-selling book series, rather than an in-universe spinoff such as the “Fantastic Beasts” film series. Each season would reportedly draw from one of the books, suggesting an ongoing franchise that would stretch for years for the studio. Sources close to the situation suggest that talks between Warner Bros. Discovery and Rowling’s camp remain in a preliminary state. The studio is looking to house the series under its streaming banner HBO Max, soon to be combined with Discovery+ and rebranded under a new name.

WWE and UFC parent Endeavor Group Holdings made things official in an SEC filing Monday morning, confirming their blockbuster merger into a combat sports colossus.

CNBC, the top pro wrestling and mixed martial arts promotions in the world would both be operated under a new joint company led by Endeavor CEO Ari Emanuel. McMahon, who briefly stepped down from WWE this past July after the Wall Street Journal exposed years worth of hush money payments he made to several women to keep quiet about affairs and sexual misconduct, would serve as executive chairman of the new company.

The WWE has been actively exploring an acquisition deal for some time now. Vince McMahon, the longtime public face and majority owner of the professional wrestling organization, returned to the company as executive chairman in January. McMahon had exited his WWE leadership role last year amid investigations into sexual misconduct allegations, leaving his daughter, Stephanie McMahon, to take on offices as chairman and co-CEO alongside Nick Khan, who previously served as the company’s president.

Fremantle Acquires Majority Stake In Belguim’s A Team ProductionsFremantle has acquired a majority stake in A Team Productions (ATP). Based in Belgium, A Team Productions was founded in 2009 and is led by Kobe van Steenberghe and Hendrik Verthé. The company is behind the 2011 short film Land of the Heroes, which won the International Jury Prize at Berlin in 2011. A Team also produced the short Baghdad Messi, which was shortlisted for an Academy Award in 2014. Other credits from the outfit include Patser (Gangsta) by filmmakers Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah. Later this year, A Team will release the feature-length film Baghdad Messi and the high-end fiction series Alter Ego. “I have long admired Kobe, Hendrik, and the whole ATP team’s work,” said Dave Heuten, CEO Fremantle Belgium. “I am excited to be going on this journey with them, finding synergies and developing new content together – I can’t wait to work with this brilliant team and achieve great things together.”

Michael Schneider Variety Editor at Large Comedian Taylor Tomlinson has sealed a deal with Netflix for her next two standup specials to premiere on the streamer. Tomlinson is currently touring her latest show, which will tape later this year in Washington, D.C., for a 2024 premiere date. This will rep Tomlinson’s third and fourth specials for Netflix. Her hour-long standup debut, “Quarter-Life Crisis,” premiered on the platform in 2020, followed by “Look at You” in 2022. “That’s a level of security that you don’t get very often in this business,” Tomlinson told Variety. “It’s a huge weight off your shoulders… I feel incredibly grateful and lucky.”
