Emmy FYC Events Halted as Television Academy Announces New Coronavirus Guidelines

Greg Fox—the composer and virtuoso drummer for Ex Eye, Liturgy, Zs, and more— has announced a new album. Contact is out May 29 via RVNG Intl. The follow-up to 2017’s The Gradual Progression, Contact was produced and mixed by Randall Dunn. A portion of its proceeds will benefit the Dhamma Dharā Vipassana Meditation Center. An unreleased Drake track has recently picked up steam on TikTok, and last night, the OVO rapper announced that he will be putting the song out this Thursday. Titled “Toosie Slide,” the track is produced by OZ, who previously worked with Drake on songs like “U With Me?” and “Omertà.”

The Television Academy’s decision to push back this year’s Emmy Awards voting calendar, and eliminate officially sanctioned campaign events, was applauded on Friday by many network, streamer and studio execs — several of whom had been asking the org to do such a thing.

Due to the novel coronavirus pandemic having brought TV production to a near standstill and upending campaign plans, the Television Academy announced changes Friday to the awards-season calendar for the Primetime Emmys. The new schedule shifts deadlines back roughly 1-3 weeks and condense the voting periods.

The Television Academy has suspended all For Your Consideration (FYC) events with a live audience amid concerns over the new coronavirus outbreak. The Academy on Thursday released a statement noting the decision was based on recommendations from the California Department of Public Health and the New York Department of Health regarding COVID-19.

Fox News Channel said it would pull repeats off the air during overnight hours to present continuous live coverage of the national response to the spread of coronavirus, adding four new hours of live content and dedicated hosts starting Monday, March 16.
