Two major Emmerdale stars, Lewis Cope and Brahmdeo Shannon Ramana, who play the roles of Nicky Milligan and Suni Sharma respectively, have reportedly 'quit' the show, with The Sun revealing they've already shot their dramatic departure scenes. The on-screen duo is set to make a "controversial" exit from the ITV soap in summer 2024.
Lewis joined the Em merdale cast as Nicky in December 2022, while Brahmdeo made his debut as Suni in July 2023.
Their characters have certainly faced their fair share of drama, with Nicky's attempting to trick Gabby Thomas into marriage, and both characters experiencing life-threatening attacks. However, the decision to write out two more gay characters could stir up controversy, especially following the recent death of another gay character, Ethan Anderson, just last month.
A source disclosed to The Sun: "It's not going to go unnoticed that three of the village's gay characters have been written out within a matter of weeks of each other.
The optics aren't good, especially when it's Pride month," reports the Daily Star. The insider explained: "The fact is decisions are taken months in advance and there are lots of different factors that go into things like this.
It's very unusual for three actors with the same character profile to leave at the same time." The departure of these characters could be linked to the recent drama involving Nicky's mum Ruby, who was involved in a hit-and-run accident that led to Ethan's death. Nicky has sworn to cut ties with his mother after her actions, while Suni feels betrayed by his brother Jai, who drove their father out of the village and excluded Suni from the family business.
