Coronation Street bade farewell to another of its beloved characters after one of the show's stars decided to move on. Lorna Laidlaw, who portrayed Aggie Bailey, quietly left the ITV soap, The Sun reported on Thursday.
It has been over a year since her last appearance in the Manchester-set series. The actress, previously known for her role in Doctors, first graced the long-standing drama as the Weatherfield General nurse in 2019.
She was last spotted on the cobbles during the summer of 2023, having missed several key plotlines involving her on-screen family, the Baileys.
In recent storylines, Aggie and her husband Ed faced significant marital difficulties as his gambling problem took a turn for the worse. Aggie's son Michael also found himself wrongfully arrested after being implicated in a scheme with serial killer Stephen Reid to defraud the Underworld factory.
Aggie's absence from the screen was attributed to the character leaving Weatherfield to care for a sick aunt in Birmingham, leading viewers to anticipate her return. However, no information was provided about Lorna Laidlaw's plans away from the camera, reports the Mirror.
The Sun has now revealed that any hopes of a reunion are dashed, as the actress has departed Coronation Street to join the cast of Channel 5's drama The Good Ship Murder, which has been renewed for two additional seasons and a Christmas special set to broadcast later this year.
"Lorna is a hugely talented actress and it's a great gig to land", an informant revealed to the outlet, touching on the enjoyable working environment in Malta where the filming takes place.
Amidst the theories of fans awaiting Aggie's return to Coronation Street, there's anticipation surrounding her daughter Dee-Dee's
