Emmerdale fans 'work out' prison guard Ian's link to Leyla as he betrays murderer Meena

Emmerdale fans praised the ITV soap's clever twist on Thursday as prison guard Ian betrayed murderer Meena Jutla during her court trial. During the latest instalment, Meena was left furious to discover that the jury had found her guilty for the murders of Ben Tucker, Andrea Tate and Leanna Cavanagh. Meanwhile Carol Butler, whose sister Nadine was murdered by Meena years ago, sought justice for her sibling as she decided to get revenge.
Prior to the verdict, Carol had smashed a mirror in the toilets and kept a shard up her sleeve where she stabbed Meena following the jury's guilty charge. As Meena lay lifeless on the floor, prison guard Ian, who Meena has been flirting with, called an ambulance while the court's judge asked for a doctor as Manpreet Sharma attempted to save her sister.
However, it was soon revealed that it was a plan as Meena then suddenly grabbed the shard of mirror and held Manpreet hostage in the court room. After tormenting the court room, the police eventually stormed the building as Meena realised she was going to be either shot or caught. Meena then decided to take hostage Manpreet down the side of the court room as she attempted to escape.
As they entered a courtyard, they had just one more door to go through when Meena realised that Ian, who she had asked to create an escape route, had let her down as he failed to open the last door. Frustrated, Meena declared: "No, oh Ian! You had one job, I asked him to make sure both doors were unlocked. Why do all men in my life let me down?!"
