Emmerdale fans were left in tears on Monday's heartbreaking episode as Marlon Dingle had a stroke just after getting engaged to partner Rhona Goskirk. During the latest instalment, Marlon, who didn't realise that Rhona was planning on proposing too, started having doubts about popping the question as he reflected on his past failed relationships. However, after a pep talk from ex-wife Laurel Thomas, Marlon decided to propose just at the exact same time as Rhona planned to pop the question.
After they both said yes, Marlon ran back to their home to get the engagement ring but as soon as he got through the door he started to fall ill. Marlon was then left distressed after seeing his face showing signs of a stroke in the mirror before collapsing to the ground.
In powerful and hard-hitting scenes, it then showed Marlon on the floor as viewers heard his thoughts as he kept repeating the signs of a stroke FAST — Face, Arms, Speech, and Time, as well as telling himself to stay awake and get help. After realising he had been gone a while, Marlon's daughter April Windsor went to check on him as she found him on the floor and he struggled to talk to her. It then saw Marlon being rushed in an ambulance after April called the emergency services as Rhona came running outside to see her new fiancé ill.
Showing things from Marlon's perspective, it saw everyone blurred as he kept trying to communicate with them but was unable to speak. Later at the hospital, a doctor told a concerned Rhona that Marlon had suffered a serious stroke with his speech and mobility impacted, adding that he needs surgery to remove the clot. Viewers were
