Faith Dingle’s devastating final Emmerdale scenes were inspired by the death of a much-loved Britain’s Got Talent contestant, it has been revealed. Tina Humphrey went down in BGT history after wowing viewers of the ITV talent contest with a show-stopping performance with her dog Chandi in 2010 - paving the way for similar acts to follow. But, seven years later, Tina took her own life after enduring an agonising struggle with cancer.
She was 45 when she swallowed drugs before turning to her husband Steve, holding his hand and telling him how much she loved him. It took 15 hours for her to slip away, with Steve watching on in horror - an experience that has left him emotionally scarred to this day. Now it has emerged that photographer Steve, 66, has been working alongside Emmerdale to make sure Faith Dingle’s final storyline is being handled with sensitivity and compassion.
Fans of the ITV soap are preparing to say goodbye to Faith - the Dingle matriarch - as she makes the decision to end her breast cancer suffering by taking her own life. Sally Dexter, who plays Faith, has told how she took advice from Steve on how to play the character’s final moments. The actress and soap’s producers were left in tears as Steve shared details of Tina's death. Sally told The Sun: “We were all extremely moved by Steve’s story.
I only hope we have done as much justice to the story as we could. “At the outset of telling this story we agreed all sides of this debate needed to be heard and respected.” Steve met Tina in November 2015 - five years after she and border collie Chandi finished fourth in BGT. After a whirlwind romance, the couple got engaged and decided to marry in 2016.
