Emmerdale actress Sally Dexter has told how she and the soap's producers were moved to tears after the husband of late Britain's Got Talent contestant Tina Humphrey detailed her tragic death to help with a storyline. Dog trainer Tina - who wowed television audiences with her dancing blue merle collie Chandi and finished fifth in the final of the 2010 series - fought the aggressive form of cancer, metastasised melanoma, for more than a year before she died at the age of 45 in 2017. And her photographer partner Steve, 66, who met Tina in November 2015, recalled for ITV bosses how she made the heartbreaking decision to end her life by swallowing a toxic cocktail of drugs to honour her in an upcoming plot involving Sally's character Faith Dingle.
Suffering advanced cancer, Emmerdale viewers will see Faith put an end to her suffering, having taken advice from Steve for the scenes. Sally told The Sun: 'We were all extremely moved by Steve’s story. I only hope we have done as much justice to the story as we could.
' Beloved school music teacher TIna, from Shrewsbury, was rarely apart from her blue merle border collie, after she rescued her in 1998. They went on to captivate audiences across the world after their Britain's Got Talent success, touring the country and even releasing a book about Chandi's life. Chandi, who won four Crufts finals, and made appearances on Blue Peter, Richard and Judy and Graham Norton's When Will I Be Famous, died on April 26, 2013.
And while Tina was a picture of health during her television appearances, just a few years later she was battling cancer. Steve said after her death: 'I am devastated that she is gone, but I'm happy that she is no longer suffering and is at peace. 'I miss her so much
