Emmerdale and Hollyoaks actress Georgina Hale has sadly passed away at the age of 80, after a career spanning 50 years.
The star, who was also known for her work in Ken Russell's films, won a BAFTA for Most Promising Newcomer in 1974 for her performance in Mahler. Georgina passed away on January 4th, but the news has only just been shared. Later in her career, she received a Laurence Olivier Award nomination for her role in the theatre production Steaming.
She was listed as one of the top 10 British character actors by The Guardian in 2010. Georgina faced personal tragedy throughout her life. She lost her mother when she was just 18, and her father passed away four years later.
She was married to actor John Forgeham in 1964, but they divorced in 1969. Born in Essex to a pub owner, Georgina had to change schools frequently growing up. She admitted in 2002 that she struggled with reading, writing and spelling, saying: "There was a real shame in it, and you were the dunce of the class, always getting whacked around the head." The cause of Georgina's death has not yet been revealed.
Her last screen appearance was in a 2016 episode of BBC medical soap Holby City, marking the end of her impressive career in soaps. She played Blanche Longford in Hollyoaks, showing up as Alistair's mum in 2010 to try and stop his wedding. She also had roles in Emmerdale, The Bill, and Casualty, and wasn't shy about on-screen nudity, starring without clothes in some Kurt Russell movies.
She once told the Liverpool Daily Post: "I don't mind having to take my clothes off. It's a slice of life, after all. But I don't really enjoy it." Fans have been sharing their love for Georgina Hale online.
