TV presenter Emma Willis fought back tears on Wednesday evening, as she emotionally admitted she "kicked herself" for failing to recognise the warning signs ahead of husband Matt Willis' 2016 addiction relapse. The star, who has been married to the Busted singer since 2008, made the admission during Matt’s candid and emotional BBC documentary, Matt Willis: Fighting Addiction, in which he explored the reasons behind his battle with drink and drugs over the years.
During the documentary, it was revealed that Matt had previously struggled with both alcohol and drugs such as cocaine at the height of his fame, before finally going sober for eight years after the birth of his children. Sadly however, in 2016, Matt suffered a massive relapse and began using again while Busted were performing in their reunion tour.
Matt said: "After one of our shows, someone offered me a line of coke, and I was like, 'Oh, cocaine wasn’t a problem for me, alcohol was my downfall.' "Within a month I was doing six grams on my own every f**king day and not coming home until three in the morning pretending I was working on an album, which I wasn’t really writing, I was making s**t music in the studio doing coke." Looking back on the experience, Emma admitted that she blamed herself for not having seen the warning signs sooner. She said: “You kind of kick yourself a bit, on reflection, because you're like: 'How the f**k didn't I see that?'" All those key signs, I hadn't seen for so many years...
all coming back." With tears in her eyes, the doting mum, who shares three children with Matt, soon recalled the heartbreaking moment she had realised Matt was using again: “I was absolutely flabbergasted. I couldn’t believe it.
