Emma Caldwell’s killer Iain Packer has befriended a depraved fellow sex attacker behind bars who was jailed for raping a pensioner.
Packer, Scotland’s most prolific sexual predator, is using ex-soldier Scott Forrest to claim he is innocent of the murder in letters to the Sunday Mail.
Forrest, 55, sentenced to six years for the rape of a vunerable 77-year-old, said Packer is “sorry” for Emma’s death and tries to claim police framed him.
In a letter from his cell at HMP Barlinnie, Forrest said: “Iain Packer I speak to every day. He says I can tell you certain things.
“Iain is not happy she died but not by him. Police needed to catch anyone to make themselves look better.”
A source said: “Packer and Forrest appear to be the best of pals. Both of them are very serious sex offenders who claim they are innocent so it’s hardly a surprise that they get along.”
While Packer has now dropped a legal challenge to his conviction, the 51-year-old sign fitter continues to appeal against his 36-year sentence, one of the longest handed out by a court.
Packer, 51, was found guilty of Emma’s murder 19 years after she was killed. He was also convicted of 11 rapes and multiple sexual assaults against 22 women following a trial at the High Court in Glasgow in February.
Forrest was handed a lifelong restriction order and six years in jail in 2022 for the rape of the OAP, which a judge described as a “shocking depravity”.
The ex-soldier forced the pensioner into his home in East Kilbride, Lanarkshire, in July 2020 and during the horror attack, told her: “You are loving it.”
The victim was eventually able to escape and turned up at a police station sobbing and bleeding.Forrest then lied, claiming that he was going to be paid for having sex with the
