Scores of homes have been left without water and businesses have been forced to close after a burst water main in Bury. The pipe began leaking on Hornby Street near the town centre earlier this morning.
It saw water running through the subway running underneath Peel Way to Parsons Lane near the Tesco superstore, leaving the roads flooded. United Utilities have now drafted in emergency water tankers as work to fix the issue gets underway.
Coun Tamoor Tariq, deputy leader of Bury Council and ward councillor for Redvales, said: "Issue has been caused by a burst water pipe near the centre of Bury. This has meant some businesses are closing.

Shortly before 10am, the council's own Twitter feed posted saying: "Tankers have arrived. Houses and buildings in surrounding areas are affected by the burst pipe and United Utilities are working on this.
The water should be back on in approximately 1 hour."
