Shona McGarty has shared her hope that her beloved character Whitney Dean will have a happy ending when she exits EastEnders.
It was revealed last month that Shona would be leaving Albert Square and Whitney behind as rumours swirl about what she will do next. It's believed that her final scenes on EastEnders will air next year when her contract runs out, with producers currently deliberating her exit storyline.
Despite being a fan-favourite character since she stepped into the role of Whitney in 2008, Shona has been involved some heart-wrenching storylines across her years in the soap.
Speaking to Inside Soap magazine for its EastEnders feature for the Inside Soap Awards, Shona said: "As a viewer, and after playing her for so long, Whitney deserves a happy ending. The majority of comments online and when I speak to people in the street are along the lines of, 'When is Whitney going to have her happy ending?' and I think it's time."
She continued: "Don't get me wrong, I want it to be dramatic! Everyone knows that I love playing the drama. So, I hope there are some twists and turns thrown in there and maybe even a little stunt!
"Maybe she could leave on a motorbike? I don't know, but I can't wait to find out."
It comes after Shona had been tipped to appear on Dancing On Ice next year, as she sets her sights on a career out with the BBC soap.
An insider said: “Shona is a great name for Dancing On Ice and she is on ITV’s wish-list. She is a huge talent and a very well-known name – and to walk off EastEnders and straight onto their rival channel’s biggest show would be a huge coup."
“Shona is in the running for a stint on the ice when the show begins in January but it’s all early dates," they told The Sun. “A number of stars
