The American TV star, who is well known for covering star-studded award ceremony red carpets and rubbing shoulders with the biggest A-listers, was told she had stage two cancer. As a result, 44 year old Maria underwent a surgery to have a 3.9cm tumour removed in secret in January of this year.

After completing her recovery, the star, who is expecting her first baby with husband Keven Undergaro via a surrogate, decided to share her heartbreaking situation with fans, as she was finally told the surgery had been a "success". The presenter also said she's hopeful that catching the cancer early enough will mean she won't need to have chemotherapy or additional treatment. As it stands, Maria will head back to hospital for an annual check-up for the next five years instead. While finding out she had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer had been scary and incredibly difficult to process at the time, the star told her followers that it's made her "appreciate" being able to finally have a child.
