Firefighters have worked overnight to contain riots in Dundee after youths launched fireworks into flames.
Emergency services raced to the city's Balgowan Avenue after the alarm was raised at around 5.30pm last night. On arrival, crews were met with havoc as roads had been set alight in four separate fires.
Shocking pictures from the incident display terrifying scenes as flames torched the roads. The entire street is pictured ablaze with cars parked nearby while horrified passers-by watched on.
It's understood fireworks were being thrown from across the road and into the fire before erupting in the blaze. Two fire engines and a police helicopter were drafted to the scene in response to the incident.
Officers were also present in the area, with images and footage on social media showing them descending onto the incident in riot gear. It is currently unknown if there are any injuries.
Meanwhile, the leader of Dundee City Council, Councillor John Alexander, blasted the scenes as 'absolutely disgusting' as he hit out at those responsible.
Posting on Facebook, Mr Alexander said: “This reckless behaviour endangers lives, with emergency vehicles unable to pass on Balgowan Avenue and it costs residents and every taxpayer money. I hope that every single one of those individuals responsible is identified and dealt with appropriately.“Given the age of many of those in the videos and images (I guess), I expect that parents will be equally as outraged and questioning their children, if they knew they were out in that area tonight. Where were your kids tonight? Please ask them.”
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at around 5.30pm on Monday, October 31 to an incident near to Beauly Square, Dundee.
