A police officer has been left injured after feral youths launched firebomb attacks in Dundee last night.
Riots saw teenagers in balaclavas wreak havoc across the city on Halloween - targeting emergency service workers, a local school, vehicles and roads. Terrifying scenes included youths launching fireworks in the direction of police officers.
Roads were also set alight in four separate blazes as pyrotechnics were chucked into the flames. Shocking video footage shows yobs jumping on top of cars and pelting fireworks from opposite sides of the street as riot cops descend onto the scene.
Fire crews worked overnight to contain the chaos after being called to Balgowan Avenue at 5.30pm yesterday. Several emergency service materials were drafted into the incidents, including two fire engines and a police helicopter.
During the operation, police confirmed that one officer was left injured as a result of the chaos. Officers say inquires remain ongoing to identify those involved.
Chief Superintendent Phil Davison said: “There is no justification for the behaviour and disorder which was seen in the Kirkton area of Dundee last night. Inquiries are ongoing to identify everyone involved.
“Throwing fireworks and other items towards emergency services is reckless and dangerous. No one should go to work and expect to be attacked.
“One officer suffered a minor injury and damage was caused to a school and a number of vehicles. I would like to reassure the public of Dundee that we remain committed to keeping them safe as we understand last night’s behaviour must have been really distressing for residents in the areas.
