A Dumfries man has been found guilty of causing the death of a two-year-old by driving without due care and attention or reasonable consideration for others using the road or public place, and failing to maintain proper observation.
Alan Dalrymple, 57, was convicted following a week-long trial at Dumfries Sheriff Court.
Dalrymple was behind the wheel of a car which collided with little Alexandru George Radan in Charnwood Place on April 2, 2021.
Alexandru was so severely injured that he died later that day at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary.
Dalrymple had pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Alexandru’s parents, George and Cristina, welcomed the majority guilty verdict.
In a statement, they said: “We are relieved by the guilty verdict delivered today.
“We feel that justice has been done for our son, Alex.
“Our family, including our oldest son, can now look to the future.
“We wish to acknowledge the hard work of our legal representatives and the support of our friends, family and the local community.”
Dalrymple will now be subject to background reports before he is sentenced on March 27. He is banned from driving in the interim.
