Oliver Anthony is ‘singing for all of us’: Home town salutes ‘Rich Men North of Richmond’ phenomenon

Billboard Hot 100 songs chart, propelling a once-unknown songwriter from south-central Virginia onto the national stage. But he’s staying close to his roots. He opened his Rock the Block festival appearance by reading a Bible verse to the crowd of about 350 locals then said, “Despite what you’ve been reading on the Internet, this song still rings true,” and launched into his first song, “Ain’t Got a Dollar.”His life has changed since he first sang its lyric “I ain’t gotta dollar, But I don’t need a dime,” with his estimated earnings now as high as $40,000 a day. Then the crowd became his chorus when he sang his viral hit hit “Rich Men North of Richmond,” and when he invited anyone who wanted an autograph or photo after his four-tune set on the “Rock the Block” festival stage on Fourth Street, squeezed between the Railroad Club and First Baptist Church, he was mobbed. It was his second Farmville gig in four days.

Zane Lowe shuts down rumour about Frank Ocean feature on Drake’s ‘For All The Dogs’

Zane Lowe has shut down the rumour that he hinted at a potential collaboration between Frank Ocean and Drake on the latter’s upcoming LP ‘For All The Dogs’.In a since-deleted tweet, a user falsely accused Lowe of saying that the Apple Music head and former BBC Radio 1 broadcaster said that one of the guest contributions on ‘For All The Dogs’ is “industry-shaking, never-done-before,” and the “feature of dreams.”The user also said that the broadcaster hinted at it being Ocean by playing the singer’s hit track ‘Nikes’ directly afterwards.Lowe then took to Twitter/X to clear the air, responding to the original tweet saying that it was “not true,” adding: “Haven’t said a word about the new Drake album, I hardly ever speak on Frank. ‘Peter Pan Goes Wrong’ Review: If Pratfalls Piling Up Is Wrong, This Ahmanson Production Doesn’t Want to Be Right

Chris Willman Senior Music Writer and Chief Music Critic “Peter Pan Goes Wrong,” now playing at L.A.’s Ahmanson Theatre, has its roots partly in silent-film slapstick, partly in British pantomime and partly in Python. As with its highly popular parent production, “The Play That Goes Wrong,” the idea here is to present a show-within-a-show-within-a-show in which everything that could go haywire will.

Robbie Robertson, in Appreciation: Maria McKee Recalls the Band Leader’s Old-School Elegance and Collaborative Spirit

Chris Willman Senior Music Writer and Chief Music Critic Robbie Robertson left a legacy of storytelling behind him when he died at age 80 on Aug. 9 in Los Angeles. It’s not just the tales he concocted for his work with the Band and, later, his solo records, but his prowess as one of music’s great raconteurs, whether he was harking back to an upbringing that had him visiting Native reservations with his mother or telling of the high life among the rich and infamous.
