The series, written by Doctor Who and Sherlock’s Steven Moffat and also starring Alex Kingston as Douglas’s newspaper editor wife, Ben Miles as his producer and Ted Lasso’s Nick Mohammed as a comedy writer enlisted to help Douglas respond to criticism, has divided critics, with the show getting a five star review from one newspaper and a one star review from another.

Douglas Is Cancelled is a four-part comedy drama about cancel culture set in the world of television news. It shows what happens when national treasure news presenter Douglas Bellowes tells a sexist joke at a wedding.
Speaking at the ITV press launch for the programme, Steven Moffat said that he originally wrote the series as a play back in 2018. He told the RTS it was inspired by a tale he heard about a “prominent individual being rehearsed for an interview by a junior colleague".
His interest was piqued, he said: “Woah, what goes on in that room? Because any junior colleague wants to get rid of their senior colleague.”
He was in, and he wrote a story which ends up with “one hell of a confrontation".
The programme stars Hugh Bonneville, Karen Gillan, Ben Miles, Alex Kingston, Nick Mohammed and Simon Russell Beale. It was written by Primetime Emmy and BAFTA Winning screenwriter Steven Moffat.
