Doctor Who star Mark Sheppard has given fans an update on his health after experiencing serious heart problems. In December, he shocked his two million Instagram followers by revealing that he had "died" after suffering "six massive heart attacks" and being revived four times. Speaking at Dublin Comic Con last Sunday (March 10), he clarified his current health status after a fan expressed concern.
"The elephant in the room - I do not have heart disease," he said. "I do not have an ongoing heart issue.
The only thing that I'm at risk of is apparently sudden cardiac death. Which is kind of fun.
Really, there's nothing else I'm worried about," he reassured fans. "Heredity is a very interesting thing. My father and his father and his father all had relative cholesterol problems." Recalling the horrific health problems he faced last year, Mark revealed that he had been undergoing treatment for skin cancer and had been about to return to the hospital for further surgery when he collapsed "like a ton of bricks" in his kitchen.
He explained: "I'm flat on my back...he's back there just paddled me awake. So I had 100 percent blockage in my Widowmaker artery... So the statistical possibilities of me being alive.
Well, very close to zero." "I was very clearly aware of the fact that it was going to die. My brain said, 'Just breathe out you're done,' and I was like, 'I'm not doing this,' I got very, very mad and fought every step of the way.
The more I fought, the more they (medics) fought with me." After arriving at the hospital he was rushed into surgery, where surgeons drilled through the blockage, and were luckily able to save his life and discharge him from hospital two days later. However, that same day he collapsed again.
