Dermot O'Leary has explained his reasons for declining an offer for Strictly Come Dancing after bosses tried to recruit him.
The former X Factor host, 50, appeared on Good Morning Britain on Friday to discuss his new children's book, Wings of Glory, when the chat turned to the BBC ballroom dancing show. Despite having pals who work on the beloved competition, Dermot was adamant he wouldn't be taking part anytime soon.
Dermot's admission comes just a day before the first Strictly 2023 live show as the celebrities and their professional partners dust off their dancing shoes. Although it's bad news for Strictly fans as Dermot admits he won't be Cha Cha Cha-ing in front of judges Shirley Ballas, Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, and Anton du Beke anytime soon.
Speaking on GMB, host Ben Shephard couldn't resist grilling Dermot ahead of the Strictly live show. He queried: “The call for Strictly, does it come in every year?”
Dermot responded: “No, never,” before correcting himself: “It’s come in once.” Ben replied: “Once, when was that? This year?”
He went on to confirm that he was offered Strictly "a couple of years ago". He recalled: "I took lunch with them because a few of my mates work on the show, who I respect greatly and I think they’re brilliant.”
While Ben quipped: “So you let them buy you lunch and then said no?”
“I offered,” Dermot laughed. “I love the show but I just don’t want to do it.”
While Strictly fans may be disappointed to hear Dermot isn't keen to perform, they can also look forward to EastEnders star Bobby Brazier taking on a Foxtrot, and Angela Rippon's Cha Cha.
