Owners of a deli van in Liverpool are being backed by locals after being forced to pay £6,000 or leave their spot during the Eurovision song contest. After Liverpool was announced as the city that would play host to the annual singing contest in May, street traders Patsy Murphy and Rebecca Molloy received a letter from Liverpool City Council.
The ECHO reported how the letter addressed to Patsy said that to continue trading in their prime waterfront spot on Pier Head for nine days leading up to the final of the song contest, they will be charged £6,000. This is because the location of their deli van falls within the Eurovision Village and the council has temporarily suspended all existing street trading licenses in the area.
Patsy and Rebecca, who have held the site there since 2010, were told that they can reapply to trade at their existing site, but to do so they will have to cough up £6,000. Since receiving the letter Patsy said the pair have received widespread support from locals - including a customer throwing £50 into her van.

She has instead been offered an alternative pitch three miles away at Riverside Drive where she says there is no passing trade whatsoever.
Patsy, who says she was invited to trade at the Pier Head 13 years ago by the council and has always been able to operate as normal during major events, has received huge support after her story went public over the weekend,
