Jadon Sancho isn’t doing enough in training to impress Ralf Rangnick, according to former England international defender Danny Mills.
Rangnick opted to start Anthony Elagna over Sancho for Manchester United’s 2-2 draw with Aston Villa on Saturday, with the former Borussia Dortmund star having to be content with a place on the bench.
After the game United’s interim boss claimed his decision to start Elanga was due to the number of matches they’ve had to play in a relatively short period, the 19-year-old impressed at Villa Park and Rangnick singled him out for praise.
“I think [Elanga] did well. He showed me exactly what I expected him to deliver in that game [on Saturday], He told reporters at his pre-match press conference ahead of Wednesday’s trip to Brentford.
“He listens and he's trying to put all the effort into his game. I was pleased with his performance in the 75 minutes he played. ”
However, former England Defender Danny Mills has suggested that Sancho isn’t working hard enough in training to warrant starting for United at the moment.
“We know Sancho has got fantastic ability, we know he can create and score," he told Football Insider.
“What’s the only reason you can imagine he’s not playing? Maybe he’s not putting it in during training, he’s maybe not doing what the manager wants him to do.
“He might not want to defend or run. Clearly, the manager is not seeing what he needs to see in training.
“It’s not that he isn’t fit enough, it’s not that he doesn’t have the ability, it must be because of his attitude.”
Sancho has struggled for form since joining United for £73 million from Dortmund in the summer, scoring twice in 23 appearances across all competitions.
