Susan was about to retire and was on her way to see a nursing manager to find out how to retrain in that profession when she got the call from Emmerdale.The ITV soap offered her the role of Nurse Wendy out of the blue, and it didn't take long for Susan to say yes. She told The Mirror: "I was at a bit of a crossroads in my life through one thing and another and I decided that I wanted a more regular job.
