A Dalbeattie man is getting ready to walk 100 miles for a cause close to his heart.
David Link is taking part in Cancer Research UK’s Walk 100 Miles challenge next month.
David, who is 68, said: “I was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2013 and I was very lucky to get fixed in 2014.
“It’s something that remains on your mind and there’s several people I know who are currently suffering with cancer.
“I just thought it would be a nice thing to do. I’m not looking to raise a huge amount of money, times are hard and people have got a lot of pressures on.
“I’m just letting as many people as I can know about it so that, if they’re minded to, they can support a cause which, unfortunately, it is reckoned is going to affect one in two of us before the end of our lives.”
David runs community websites and Facebook pages in both Dalbeattie and Castle Douglas.
And he’ll be providing updates of his progress as well as letting people know how they can follow in his footsteps.
He said: “I’m going to try to take photographs of interesting places as I go round and also maps of where I’ve walked so if people want to walk those walks they can do that.
“They’re not going to be ambitious walks – I’m only looking to do 3.5 miles a day to get the 100 miles in so for me it’s a question of don’t miss a day out or else the next day I’ve got to walk seven miles!
“I’m very lucky to live in an area that has such accessibility and such wonderful walks.
“Dalbeattie Town Wood is accessible for a lot of people so I’m trying to do walks which they might be able to do as well.”
