History could be repeating itself for the Connors in Coronation Street as Liam (Charlie Wrenshall) looks at ways of ending his life after being mercilessly bullied at school.
The family lost Aidan Connor (Shayne Ward) to suicide in 2018, so Liam’s mum, Maria Connor (Samia Longchambon) is determined to protect her son at all costs. While Maria keeps a close eye on Liam, his stepdad Gary Windass (Mikey North) goes out to confront the culprits. When Dylan Wilson (Liam McCheyne) finds himself in the spotlight, his dad Sean Tully jumps to his defence, but is horrified when he discovers the contents of Dylan’s phone.
Actor Antony Cotton, who plays Sean, says he and Maria are set to clash as the bullying between their children continues, but off-screen the actors try to keep it light. “Sean loves Maria, but when it’s about the kids, it’s where it all goes wrong,” says Antony. “You hear that about families – they fall out over their kids because one sees them as their precious angel and the other knows the truth." "That’s what happens between them," continued Antony.
"Sean is everyone’s friend, so I imagine all will be well in the end, but it’s going to take a while to get us there. I do love working with Samia so much and we had a massive laugh filming the scene where we had a row in the school.” What Sean doesn’t realise is that both Liam and Dylan are victims of Mason Radcliffe (Luca Toolan), with Dylan only taking part in the torment so he doesn’t become a target himself. “Sean isn’t reading between the lines,” says Antony.
