Manchester-based brand Joanie Clothing has teamed up with one of the city’s most iconic pop culture icons of all time to create a limited edition fashion range.The five-piece collection was inspired by the world’s longest-running continuing drama, Coronation Street, which has been on air for more than 63 years and has become one of Manchester’s best-loved pieces of history. With the famous cobbles being set somewhere in Salford, just a stone’s throw away from Joanie Clothing’s Ardwick offices, the brand couldn’t wait to collaborate with the soap’s producers to create a fashion range that took inspiration from some of the show’s most memorable parts.The collection, which launched at the end of June, was designed in close collaboration with the team from Corrie and features pieces inspired some of the soap’s most iconic locations and brands.
Joanie Clothing's Brand Director, Lucy, says: “Working on a collab with Coronation Street has been such fun. I really enjoyed working with the producers to ensure the devil was in the detail – from making sure the window lintels to the famous terrace were perfectly accurate, matching the window graphics in Dev’s corner shop to ensure continuity, to making sure Norris’ paperboy was standing outside the Kabin was a dream job for me.
“We wanted to create wearable, tongue-in-cheek products that would feel like they had come out of a vintage store rather than a gift shop. Coronation Street Anita Carey has died at the age of 75, following a 13 year battle with breast cancer.The actress played both Brenda Summers and Joyce Smedley in the ITV soap, in roles that were two decades apart. She also appeared in Doctors as Vivian March, but sadly died on 19 July, reports The Guardian.
