Former Coronation Street star Charlie De Melo has said its been 'torture' as he was finally able to speak out on his next TV role. Fans of the ITV soap will remember the actor for playing Imran Habeeb in the ITV soap from 2017 until his exit last year (2022).
He went on to appear in The Clothes They Stood Up In, which is Adrian Scarborough’s adaptation of Alan Bennett’s book of the same name. But he's now set to return to the small screen. Four new Doctor Who 60th anniversary special actors were announced in the latest Doctor Who Magazine.
It was confirmed that Charlie will play Charles Banerjee in The Giggle the third of three Doctor Who 60th anniversary specials to appear on-screens starting this month. David Tennant is set to reprise his role and star as the 14th Doctor alongside comedian Catherine Tate who plays the Time Lord’s former companion Donna Noble.

They'll appear in three special episodes that will run each Saturday from November 25 to mark the show’s anniversary. The first episode set to air is called The Star Beast and will be followed by Wild Blue Yonder, airing on December 2 and The Giggle, which will air on December 9.
Sharing the news of his involvement on X, formerly known as Twitter, Charlie said: "Keeping this quiet has been a minor torture. Very excited to be a cog in this magnificent machine." He added, referring to being involved in Corrie's six-decade celebrations in 2020: "Two 60th Anniversaries on two titans of British television. It's a niche feather in my cap, but I shall wear it with pride."
