Coronation Street fans think they have spotted an obvious blunder as Elaine Metcalfe ended up in hospital after being drugged by Stephen Reid. Elaine is completely unaware that her future husband has taken out a life insurance policy in her name as he tries to raise the cash to buy Carla Connor's shares in Underworld.
Earlier this week, viewers of the ITV soap saw rival businessman Owen Longford, who is currently in line to take over the factor discover that Stephen has been scheming to ruin his romantic chances with Jenny Connor. During their confrontation, Owen vowed to fire him from the factory as soon as the contracts are signed.
But Stephen responds by talking to Carla in private, urging her to reconsider the sale of the factory before eventually agreeing that she'll consider letting him buy her out - if he comes up with the money. Letting his frustrations get the better of him, Stephen furiously trashed the factory floor after sending staff home. Back at home, Stephen suggested again to Elaine that they should buy Carla’s share of the business.

But when she snapped at him and spells out that she will never invest a penny in the factory and they should simply enjoy their retirement, Stephen masks his fury - until later when he replaced her blood pressure pills with caffeine pills.
