“The first paycheck I got, I was like, ‘Are you serious?’ I had lived on very little money for a long time,” he recalled. The actor joked that he thought he’d never have to work in a restaurant again. However, the money didn’t go as far as he thought, joking, “About two months later, I was like, ‘Where’d that money go?!’”
He said that he “traveled the world,” thinking that he’d “probably invest” and buy a yacht. Chris explained that he didn’t have a grasp of money at the time.
“That was just a crazy amount of money to me. I never could have possibly imagined making that amount of money. And it went very quickly,” he said.
He continued, saying, “Because we never had any money growing up, no one ever taught me financial literacy. i didn’t know what to do with money. It was like, it would come in, I would spend it.
“It took a good amount of time for me to kind of stop and say, ‘All right. I’ve got to get wise about this. I have to think about what am I going to do. How am I going to get the point where if I stop working one day I’ll still be Ok?’”
