Charles and Camilla visit Ukrainian cathedral after slamming Russia's 'brutal attacks'

Prince Charles and his wife and future queen consort, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall showed their support for the Ukrainian community during a visit to the Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral in London on Wednesday. A day after the first in line to the throne spoke out against Russia and President Vladimir Putin's invasion of Ukraine, he and his wife were greeted by Bishop Kenneth Nowakowski, the Ukrainian Ambassador, Vadym Prystaiko, and his wife, Inna Prystaiko.
Inside the Cathedral, the royal couple met some children from the associated Ukrainian school and received a traditional offering of bread and salt.The pair also met a group of volunteers helping the humanitarian effort and leaders of charities working to support the relief effort in Ukraine. Charles, 73, and Camilla, 74, also spoke with guests, many of whom have family and loved ones in Ukraine and are working to support their community.
Back in the Cathedral, they lit a candle and laid sunflowers, the national flower of Ukraine, at the altar.The Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral is open for worship daily and has become a rallying point for the British Ukrainian community during the recent Russian invasion of Ukraine.The visit comes after Charles condemned President Vladimir Putin's invasion of Ukraine as "brutal aggression". Camilla joined him in Southend-on-Sea for a visit in honour of the murdered MP Sir David Amess, where he also spoke about the current Ukrainian crisis.
He called the invasion an attack on "democracy" and declared he and his wife, the Duchess of Cornwall, stand in solidarity with the Ukrainian people. ITV News reported from the engagement: "The values of democracy and freedom are under attack today in Ukraine in the most unconscionable way.
