Charl-Jaquairdo is the new Mr Gay World South Africa!

More LGBTQ+ events have now been postponed because of the growing threat of coronavirus in South Africa.

< 1 min read Mr Gay World 2020 which was planned to kickoff in Knysna, South Africa next month, has been officially postponed due to the spread of coronavirus.

As the growing coronavirus pandemic continues to disrupt film and television production across the globe, the South African industry is bracing for the impact of the virus’s spread as the government announced a raft of emergency measures, including a travel ban on foreign nationals from the U.S. and the U.K.

Amazon Studios has pulled the plug on “Love Island France,” which was shooting outside of Cape Town, as the coronavirus pandemic that has disrupted production across the globe spreads to the South African film and TV industry.

Last year, Big Concerts announced that Lighthouse Family will be visiting South Africa for the first time. However, after President Cyril Ramaphosa banned public gatherings of over 100 people because of the spread of coronavirus COVID-19, Big Concerts has confirmed that, unfortunately, the Lighthouse Family concert will be rescheduled.

As the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic continues to cause havoc around the globe, local governments are putting preventative measures into play as the world tries to lessen the number of transmissions and infections. In South Africa, President Cyril Ramaphosa revealed last night that public gatherings of over 100 people are officially banned and, with that, Bebe Winans has decided to postpone his 2020 tour of South Africa.

Twenty-eight-year-old Charl-Jaquairdo van Helsdingen from Johannesburg was recently named Mr Gay World South Africa.

In recent weeks, in anticipation of Moffie’s South African premiere on 13 March, director Oliver Hermanus shared and discussed the film with a select few local gay men for whom he has great admiration, and sat down to talk about their experience of the word “moffie.”
