Cats leads nominations for Razzie Awards for worst films

ReFrame, the coalition of industry leaders and companies dedicated to gender parity in entertainment, has announced the 2019 film recipients of its ReFrame Stamp. As with the two classes preceding it, projects that qualify must have hired female-identifying people in at least half of eight key roles — writer, director, producer, lead, co-lead, speaking parts, department heads and crew — with extra weight given to women of color in these positions.

Just like the Oscars puts the spotlight on the best of films, the Razzies every year highlights films that made us cringe and scratch our heads asking why. Sweeping the Razzies this year are three films namely Cats, A Madea Family Funeral, and Rambo: Last Blood. All the three films bagged eight nominations in various categories, they all ended up in the Worst Picture category. The nominations were announced just a day before the Oscars by The Golden Raspberry Foundation. 

They say that cats have nine lives, but Cats (the Tom Hooper film) is having less luck after receiving nine nominations at this year’s Golden Raspberry Awards for the worst films of 2020.The blockbuster musical has an all-star cast including Jennifer Hudson, Dame Judi Dench and Taylor Swift and is nominated in nine categories after receiving poor reviews earlier this year. Other films that are up for the Worst Picture award include The Haunting of Sharon Tate and Rambo: Last blood.

The widely panned movie musical “Cats” and four of its stars were nominated on Saturday for Razzie awards, an annual ritual that lampoons the worst of cinema.

The Hollywood Reporter has been nominated for a National Magazine Award for General Excellence, Special Interest, by the American Society of Magazine Editors.THR will compete with Atlanta, Audubon, National Parks and The Trace in the category at the March 12 Ellie Awards, which are considered among the most prestigious in digital and print journalism.The General Excellence award "honors print, digital and multiplatform publications for editorial excellence and audience engagement," with judges
