Carol Vorderman, 62, has revealed that she no longer sunbathes after discovering precancerous skin cells. The former Countdown star opened up about her health scare while answering fan questions on her Instagram Stories on Thursday in preparation of her upcoming appearance on I’m A Celeb South Africa. Explaining why she now relies on fake tan, the presenter shared that she previously had a biopsy where her tissue was examined.
Vorderman said on her Story: “Well I don’t sunbathe anymore or rather I choose not to because I’ve had you know, little pre-cancerous skin thingy, biopsy thingies, all of that. “So, I do fake tans. Do you like this one? Put that on last night, a little bit of fake tan.
Hopefully it lasts. ”Although the presenter never had skin cancer, it was reported last year that skin cancer cases have hit a record level in England, with around one in five people affected during their lifetime. There were 224,000 skin cancers recorded in England in 2019 and more than 1.
4 million between 2013 and 2019, according to figures analysed by NHS Digital and the British Association of Dermatologists. The data suggests a 26 per cent rise in recorded cases, from 177,677 in 2013 to 224,092 in 2019. Experts believe an ageing population and improvements to how cancers are reported are behind the rise.
Recently, Australian actor Hugh Jackman announced that he had ungergo two skin cancer biopsies, which fortunately were negative, after his doctor noticed “little things” that could potentially be Basal Cell Carcinoma, a common form of skin cancer. Elsewhere, Vorderman’s video comes as viewers prepare to watch her go back into the jungle for a special edition of I’m A Celebrity. .
